Journal Post #3

As an educator, I imagine I would use most of my material from a textbook, but for the material I create myself would fall under the Fair Use clause, as well as my student's work. To avoid copyright infringement, I would use the textbook for the basis of my instruction, as well as some supplemental material, but otherwise base my classroom instruction on a culmination of knowledge. I think informing students about copyright and fair use is a moot point, to a degree, and think that educating them on plagiarism would be sufficient in a classroom setting for what the student needs.

Decreased productivity is a big deal in classrooms that have technology requirements, like media classes, or that have lax rules on personal technology uses. To address these issues, I would limit personal device usage in the classroom to restrict to use only when necessary, at the end of class, or when there is downtime. If the situation were to arise where a student abused their device usage in my class, I would ask that they don't use their device in my classroom at all, even during the time(s) other students can. I've seen some teachers use the over-the-door shoe organizer to hold cell phones during class periods, and I can't say I'm opposed to that idea either.

In general, I think AI is bad, personally. Artistically, it takes from real artists who put work into their craft and skill. Academically, it takes from those who put work into their education. As a student, I think it is detrimental because it allows students to 'take an easy way out,' for lack of better phrase. In a classroom setting, it also detracts from human interaction, which is important for a number of reasons.

The Newsletter Design assignment taught me that Canva is not my friend, haha. The majority of the time I spent on that project was me trying to navigate Canva and make the heading look then way I wanted it to. I think to improve my newsletter in the future, I could adjust the coloring- maybe choose a color that isn't plain white. Creating the cut-out section of the newsletter will probably be the most useful part of that assignment in the future. :)
