Another PLN

Another PLN we can use is LinkedIn !  LinkedIn can be helpful for connecting with other educators and networking with educators outside of your school, or even your county! Not only does it help with personal development, but it can also be beneficial for professional development!

Journal Post #10

I think I would use surveys in my classroom as a way to get feedback from my students. This is a common practice in colleges, so I don't see why it shouldn't be implemented in high school classes as well. I intend on teaching high school social studies classes and I believe that starting something like this early can help the students gain some understanding of something that they'll encounter in college, as well as give me, as as educator, feedback to see what I can do to improve, what my students like and don't like, and different subject matter that they want to learn about.  I learned from Bria's blog that CPALMS can be really beneficial in classroom settings when considering lesson plans and materials needed for the lessons themselves (Blog Post #4). In her third blog post, Bria discusses cyberbullying. I believe her approach to it with open communication and trust is admirable! In Caitlin's fifth blog post, she discusses the Google Classroom, which I'...

The web design assignment was kind of difficult for me, but I think that's mostly because I'm a little impatient when it comes to myself. :) I learned a lot about formatting and different ways to edit pictures. I'm not sure if this is just an issue that I was having, but when I tried to click between the pages on the header, I would sometimes have to change the URL to go back to my home page to switch to a different page, or hit the back button to go back to the previous webpage, so that was another frustration for me. Working around Wix and changing the formatting of preset webpages and creating my own pages was an interesting experience, and I learned a lot about my own creativity when it comes to that! I liked this assignment because it forced me to sit down and work on something outside of my comfort zone, but I didn't like it for the same reason, haha. I think having a website like that in the future would be beneficial for keeping parents and students up to date ...

For this assignment, I took to my own  alma mater ! I looked at my choir's website, since I was heavily involved in choir. On this website, you're able to see the Chorus Handbook and the schedule for rehearsals, concerts, and assessments. The Seminole County School Board has their own website with a login and I would imagine that having a parental/student/teacher login for that would amass a lot more information regarding contact information or scheduling for the different choirs across the county, rather than just Winter Springs High. Aside from chorus, there's also the athletics webpages of the site. There, you are able to find the students on each team as well as their schedule. As a future educator, I think that using social media, email, and projectors will end up being a big part of my teaching methods. I think social media is an important way to keep students engaged and updated with their information. They're on the websites anyway, so adding one account to fol...

Diigo didn't really seem to have an impact on my education thus far. I don't feel one way or another about it. It was interesting being able to see other people's websites and their comments about them. Being able to annotate the websites was also pretty cool! The website was pretty easy to navigate. Blogging is definitely an easy way to keep track of assignments, rather than turning them all in individually. Blogging in itself, though, also hasn't made any real difference in my education... I like that the blog itself is pretty customizable and I like that we can edit blog posts even after they've been published. Moodle is considered a learning management system. It can be used for in-person classes, online classes, and hybrid classes. It has different games, website hyperlinks, and forums. I would say that Moodle can be very helpful to educators as a tool as it can connect students to each other and their educator, but can also connect educators to each other. I t...

Hiya! I've been using Instagram primarily as a part of my PLN for this class, but I did also make a Twitter/X account for this class. As such, I've been monitoring both feeds for different tips and things to make me think a little more thoroughly about education. Following current educators has been beneficial because its given me ideas on classroom organization and lesson plans! @thedaringenglishteacher on Instagram has been particularly interesting to follow because she posts a lot of funny stories about classroom interactions and lesson plans in her English classes for her high school classes. Twitter/X could be useful in the future to connect with other teachers, students, or parents for things like field trip information, general classroom information (instead of sending out newsletters), or just keeping fresh ideas. When I was in high school, we had a Twitter account for each different chorus class to keep up with our different rehearsal schedules, so I think that somet...
